Steve Garrison

Steve Garrison earned his master’s degree from the Missouri School of Journalism in 2020. He is now a reporter for the Courthouse News Service. He was also an editor and reporter for The Post and Courier in Charleston, South Carolina.

Garrison was named the recipient of the James and Patricia Atwater Memorial Writing Prize for his coverage of severe weather and flooding in mid-Missouri. He has also volunteered with the Covid Tracking Project and interned with Injustice Watch, a Chicago nonprofit news organization focused on exposing institutional failures that obstruct justice and equality. Before attending Mizzou, Garrison covered the criminal justice system for six years at newspapers in Wisconsin, New Mexico and Indiana.

During his time with WWG, Garrison worked with Pamela Colloff to investigate the criminal justice system.
