Sophia Anderson

Sophia Anderson is a senior at the University of Missouri studying journalism and sociology with an expected graduation date of May 2026. She is currently working for the News Media Help Desk at Reynolds Journalism Institute, freelancing with WWNO-FM in New Orleans as a data reporter, and working as a documentary producer on a project with Professor Ron Stodghill.

In the summer of 2025, Anderson was a Reynolds Journalism Institute student innovation fellow. In that role, she worked with WWNO-FM to help incorporate more data visualization in its coverage. She also created a publicly accessible data reporting toolkit.

Anderson is also a published researcher. A study she worked on, “I’d Rather Sit at Home and Suffer in Silence”: Black Women’s Experiences with Weight Stigma, was published in the Stigma and Health Journal by the American Psychological Association in January 2026.

Anderson’s senior capstone project was a three-part podcast series looking at the cultural ownership of food in immigrant communities along the Mississippi River. It was published with the New Orleans NPR affiliate.
