Julia Garrison is a second-year master’s student at the University of Missouri studying investigative and data journalism. She earned her undergraduate degree at the College of Wooster, where she completed a dual-major program in English and Global Media & Digital Studies. Originally from Morgantown, West Virginia, she has a passion for rural stories and using journalism as a voice for the voiceless. She has done previous work for Mountain State Spotlight and the Missouri Independent. Most recently, she worked at the Columbia Missourian as a local government reporter and assistant city editor. When she’s not filing open records requests, she loves to birdwatch and crochet.
