Alec MacGillis is a senior reporter at ProPublica, where his focus in recent years has included gun violence, economic inequality and the post-pandemic crisis in public education. He previously worked for the New Republic, Washington Post, and Baltimore Sun, among other newspapers, and his work has appeared in the New Yorker, New York Times Magazine, and Atlantic. He is the author of “Fulfillment: America in the Shadow of Amazon” (Macmillan Publishers, 2022) and “The Cynic: The Political Education of Mitch McConnell” (Simon & Schuster, 2014).
